Staff and students at area schools have found some interesting - if messy - ways to give back to their communities. Today, we share their efforts.

Fanny D. Rittenberg School, Egg Harbor City

Dan Sakers, a sixth-grade math teacher at the Fanny D. Ritten-
berg School in Egg Harbor City, took it on the chin - and the nose and cheeks and eyes - when he agreed to participate in the Pie-in-the-Face fundraiser at the school.

Students purchased chances for 25 cents each and put them in the bucket of the teacher they would most like to smack with a cream pie. More

Chatham shrinks pay raise for its school chief

last week school administrators in Chatham, Morris County, an-
nounced that in these economically troubled times, they would give back, accepting raises of 2 percent next year rather than the 4 percent to
