Vineland school board candidates meet in public forum

VINELAND - Grappling with the state's new school-funding formula while remaining positive about prospects for high school graduates, seven candidates for seats on the city school board met for a public forum Monday.

With two high schoolers in the race - Robert Petronglo and Marilee Negron - many of the candidates' answers focused on varied experiences on different sides of the education system.

Both students argued that input from young people was needed on the board to keep in step with the expectations of each generation of graduates.

But, in the district's current financial climate, where aid has been slashed and jobs cut, even the 12th graders had to present sketches of how they would tackle hard decisions about finances - Petronglo casting himself as the frugal son of a farming family.... More
