Landis Theater / A long cliffhanger

"Sometimes, a persistent group of volunteers can succeed. And that appears to be happening in Vineland, where the Landis Theater Redevelopment Association is well on its way to realizing a dream once considered impossible - saving and restoring the classic, art deco Landis Theater."

We wrote that in 1995.

Needless to say, we were a bit premature.

The theater's future quickly took a nosedive after that brief bright spot. After nearly 10 years of dogged but ultimately unsuccessful attempts by the volunteer group to restore the theater, the city packaged the Landis Theater into a larger redevelopment project a few years ago and transferred it to a private developer....
