Holt dominates Hopkins in Atlantic City, but his victory is a split decision
By DAVID WEINBERG Staff Writer, 609-272-7186
Published: Dec 15, 2008

ATLANTIC CITY - Christmas almost came early for Philadelphia junior-welterweight Demetrius Hopkins.

He nearly got a gift - the WBO title - following his fight with champion Kendall Holt early Sunday morning. Holt, from Paterson, appeared to dominate the 12-round bout but won by a split decision at Boardwalk Hall's Adrian Phillips Ballroom.

Gasps could be heard throughout the crowd of 1,510 when it was announced that judge Julie Lederman favored Hopkins 115-113. That was followed by sighs of relief when it was learned that judges Luis Rivera (117-111) and Alan Rubenstein (116-112) had scored it for Holt, allowing him to retain his title.

The Press gave Holt a 118-110 advantage. More
